How much store credit will I get for my books?
Credit is based on current demand, condition, completeness, and inventory needs — there's no fixed percentage or price list. Books in clean, sellable condition with intact covers and bindings get the best offers. We don't negotiate the amount once it's offered, but we'll always tell you why an item was valued the way it was.
Can I get cash instead of store credit?
No. The Ink Crypt offers store credit only for trade-ins — we don't pay cash for books, games, or media. That trade-off is what lets us offer better credit value than a straight cash buyback, and it keeps great books circulating through the store instead of out the door.
What condition do my books need to be in?
Clean and sellable: no excessive water damage, mold, mildew, or missing pages, no heavy writing or highlighting, and covers and bindings need to be intact. Discs (DVD, Blu-ray, games) need to be scratch-free, playable, and in good overall shape, ideally with original packaging.
Do I need an ID to trade in books?
Yes. You'll need a valid government-issued photo ID — a driver's license, passport, or state ID all work — and the name on it needs to match the name on the trade transaction.
Can I trade in video games and movies too?
Yes. Beyond books, we accept DVDs, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, video games, select computer games, game systems and accessories, RPGs, and e-readers. We don't accept audiobooks, library media, textbooks issued by schools, or a handful of other exceptions — the full accepted and not-accepted lists are on our Trade-In Program page.
Can I trade in a large collection at once?
Absolutely — just reach out in advance if you're bringing in a big collection so we can plan the evaluation time accordingly.
